Kevin De Bruyne names Phil Foden's long-term position for Man City with Pep Guardiola claim

Kevin De Bruyne has explained where he thinks Phil Foden's best position will be going forward for Manchester City.

Foden scored twice as City claimed a 4-0 win over Brighton on Thursday night in the Premier League. De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez were also on the score sheet as Pep Guardiola's side moved up to second place in the league standings, above Liverpool.

City are now just one point behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand in the Premier League table. Guardiola and Co. will now prepare to face Nottingham Forest this weekend away from home in the first of their final five top-flight fixtures.

De Bruyne opened the scoring for City, while Foden got both of his goals before the half-time interval. After the game, De Bruyne praised the versatility and impact Foden has on the City team and went on to name the position that he believes his teammate will make his own in the years to come.

"I think he [Foden] will end up centrally," De Bruyne told Sky Sports. "I have seen Phil from the beginning and he was always a number 10.

"I think it’s hard to understand everything you need to do in a Pep [Guardiola] team and I don’t think it was necessarily offensive in the beginning, but it’s more the structure and then you get a little bit more freedom.

"Phil gets trusted to play central and even today, we did not play with any wingers so we both played a little bit centrally and had to go on the wing sometimes.
