Kepa Arrizabalaga’s girlfriend has hit back at the Spanish keeper’s critics after his nightmare performance during Chelsea ’s defeat on penalties to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
The shot-stopper was brought on specifically for the shootout at Wembley, but failed to save any of Liverpool’s 11 spot-kicks and skied his penalty high over the bar to hand the Reds the trophy.
It was a galling end to the competition for Kepa, who had starred in the Blues’ run to the final, including making crucial interventions in two previous shootouts in earlier rounds.
But while Thomas Tuchel was hoping he would be the hero for Chelsea, Kepa turned out to be the villain having come on in place of Edouard Mendy who had produced a man-of-the-match performance.
In the aftermath of the game, Kepa has faced criticism for his antics in trying to put off Liverpool’s penalty takers, which failed with all 11 of them.
In the midst of that criticism, Kepa has now received the backing of his girlfriend Andrea Martinez, who won the Miss Universe Spain in 2020.
The 29-year-old was in stands at Wembley to see the showpiece event and has now launched a staunch criticism of her partner.
