Kentucky continues magical run, wins SEC women's basketball crown for first time since 1982

Kentucky's women's basketball team won the SEC tournament title for the first time since 1982 with a 64-62 upset of No. 1-ranked South Carolina on Sunday. The winning basket was a 3-pointer by Dre'una Edwards with five seconds left.

The Wildcats, seeded No. 7 in the tournament, won four games in Nashville, Tennessee, to take the championship, including beating No. 1 seed South Carolina, No. 2 LSU and No. 3 Tennessee. They started their run Thursday beating No. 10 seed Mississippi State.

Kentucky took the 1982 title over Tennessee when the tournament was just in its third year. Since then, the Wildcats had lost in the SEC final in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. They fell to South Carolina twice in the regular season this year, but were able to give the Gamecocks just their second loss Sunday. South Carolina also fell too Missouri on Dec. 30.

South Carolina still has the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament locked up, according to ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Creme. The Gamecocks had won six of the last seven SEC tournament titles.

Kentucky, which started its SEC slate 2-8, is now 19-11 overall and 8-8 in the SEC, and has won 10 games in a row.
