Kent's Marcus O'Riordan ruled out for the rest of the season with shoulder injury

Kent’s Marcus O'Riordan has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

O'Riordan, 24, hasn’t featured since scoring 169 for the 2nds when skippering the side against Durham in a drawn four-day game at the end of last month.

He had been in good form prior to that knock, too, having scored three successive 2nd XI half-centuries.

A statement from Kent on Wednesday read: “Kent Cricket can confirm that Marcus O’Riordan will miss the rest of the 2022 season with a shoulder injury.

“After an assessment from the club’s medical team and after consultation, O’Riordan will undergo surgery that will mean that the all-rounder is now expected to return to first-team action in 2023.

“We wish Marcus a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in a Kent shirt next season.”

His latest first-team appearance had come in May at The Spitfire Ground as he struck a second-innings 102 not out against a Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI - which was his maiden first-class century.

Pembury-born O'Riordan is a former student at Tonbridge School, as is team-mate Zak Crawley.
