Kent Merit Under-15 Girls’ Cup Final: Canterbury Eagles 1 Chislehurst Glebe 12
Clinical Chislehurst Glebe lifted the Kent Merit Under-15 Girls’ Cup final on Sunday.
They defeated Canterbury Eagles at Maidstone’s Gallagher Stadium, with a flurry of second-half goals ensuring an emphatic final scoreline.
Chislehurst Glebe boss Steve Morrison said: “The girls put in a brilliant performance and played some really good football.
“The game was played in a good spirit, Canterbury never gave up and it was a great day for girls’ football.
“These days you remember for the rest of your life, some will go further and for some it will be their peak. It’s so important that they enjoy themselves and have fun.
“It wasn’t just about the goals, they played each other and supported their team-mates from start to finish which was great to see.”
Glebe had the better of the early stages, albeit there was little indication of the goal fest to come. Caliyah Byfield showed great feet on the edge of the box before her shot was saved.
At the other end, Eagles were threatening to get behind Glebe’s high defensive line. Holly Cooper broke through but was unable to bring the ball back on her right foot and the chance was gone.
At the heart of the Eagles defence, Matilda Evans and Isabella Goodman were excellent - the final scoreline not a reflection of their ability.
The breakthrough arrived on 21 minutes when Glebe’s Isabella Flint produced an excellent finish.
At the other end, only a fine save from Glebe keeper Jess Strotten denied Eagles skipper Flora Porter an equaliser after she showed great persistence down the right wing.
Glebe made it 2-0 six minutes before half-time when Soriah Stanford’s right-wing cross sneaked in at the near post.
Two more goals followed in quick succession before half-time, Byfield volleyed in
