Kent Merit Under-14 Boys Plate Final: Real 60 Lions 1 Old Wilsonians Youth 9

Sharp-shooting Old Wilsonians were in irresistible form as they won the Kent Merit Under-14 Boys Plate Final at Holm Park on Sunday.

The tone was set as they opened the scoring against Real 60 Lions after just 20 seconds - and never looked back, with six goals coming in a 21-minute spell during the second half.

Manager Dave Hayden said: “I didn’t expect that. The boys were gutted to go out of our League Cup as early as we did so they really wanted to win this one.

“We’ve worked hard, trained hard and I knew we were going to play well - I’m overjoyed for the boys.

“That early goal took the wind out of their sails and they struggled to recover from it.

“At half-time, we had a little change-up and went again. It’s a shame it was nine as they probably deserved a bit better than that, Real 60 are a good team.

“Their manager, Michael Mercer, has been an absolute star all the way through, they’ve got another final in a few weeks and I wish them all the best in that.”

Livewire striker Joe Ingliss finished the day with five goals, the matchball and the player-of-the-match award. His first came after just 20 seconds, a low finish into the bottom corner.

Dominic Morgan hit the post and keeper Zaac Long produced two fine saves before Ingliss scored his second with a delightful finish.

It was 3-0 on 24 minutes, Ingliss latching onto a ball over the top and rounding the keeper before slotting home.

Real, to their credit, battled away and got a deserved goal back just before half-time when the lively Leo Casely-Hayford fired home from 20 yards.

But any hopes of a second-half comeback were quickly dashed as Old Wilsonians produced a performance that few teams would have been able to cope with.
