Kennington manager Dan Scorer says he got things wrong in home defeat by Lordswood

Manager Dan Scorer took responsibility for Kennington’s home defeat by Lordswood.

Scorer was quick to clear his players of blame following a 3-1 loss in the Southern Counties East Premier Division.

They trailed 2-0 inside 25 minutes last Saturday and while Ryan Philpott replied, the visitors added a third.

Scorer was impressed with Lords, who are finding their feet under new boss Nicky Southall.

But, from a personal point of view, the Ton boss felt he got things wrong.

“Saturday was a disappointing result but ultimately a fair reflection of the game,” said Scorer.

“Lordswood were fully deserving of the three points.

“I know they’re going through a transitional period in terms of management but over the two games they’ve been one of the best sides we’ve played, so I expect to see them finish pretty strong.

“In terms of us, collectively, we didn’t quite reach the standard we have in the previous few games and unfortunately it cost us.

“But I don’t hold the players accountable and I was very quick to put my hands up and admit I got a few things wrong in terms of selection and one or two other decisions on the day.

“I’m always very honest in my assessment of the game, whether that’s immediately after or after a few days’ reflection.

“I knew straight away on Saturday I’d got it wrong and it was important to address that with the players.

“I’ve spoken a lot about taking responsibility on the pitch this season but I’ll always be the first to hold my hands up and apologise if I feel I’ve got things wrong.

“I think it’s important we continue to do that collectively.”

Kennington, who remain 18th in the Premier Division, visit VCD this Saturday (3pm).
