Kenneth Egan: Eyes of boxing world will be on Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano

Boxing fans around the world will tune in to watch Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano says Kenneth Egan, and the Olympic silver medallist says he's unable to call a winner.

Taylor will put her undisputed world lightweight title on the line against the Puerto Rican in a blockbuster battle at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, 30 April.

Serrano (42-1-1, 30 KOs) is a seven-weight world champion and the long-mooted contest will be the first time two female fighters will headline a card at the famous New York arena.

Reflecting on the announcement, Egan told RTÉ Sport a mouth-watering contest is in prospect.

"This is the George Foreman v Mohammad Ali in the 'Rumble in the Jungle’," he said.

"It’s going to be a ‘Rumble in the Concrete Jungle’ in New York City.

"It’s going to be a fantastic spectacle. You have two of the best female fighters on the planet putting everything on the line and going toe-to-toe."

Taylor (20-0, 6 KOs) will put her WBC, WBA, IBO and IBF belts on the line for the sixth time since her win against Delfine Persoon in June 2019, but this will easily represent her greatest challenge since turning professional.

Egan believes the bout is simply too hard to call.

"People that know Katie Taylor know that she's going to go into that fight thinking she is going to win it, without a shadow of a doubt. It’s going to be a massive challenge for Katie.

"Serrano has all the attributes to cause havoc for Katie.

"All eyes, the world of boxing, men and women, are going to be watching this fight.

"I can’t pick a winner."
