Kennedy sacked by Swindon after poor start to season

Swindon have sacked head coach Mark Kennedy following the club's poor start to the season.

The Robins sit just one place above the Sky Bet League Two relegation zone after registering only two wins from 13 games since appointing the former Macclesfield and Lincoln boss on a two-year contract in May.

Kennedy’s final match in charge was Tuesday evening’s 2-1 loss at Salford. The Dubilner - a favourite of Mick McCarthy during his first spell in charge of the national team - won 34 caps for Ireland from 1995 to 2002.

First-team coaches Marcus Bignot, Steve Mildenhall and Gavin Gunning will oversee Saturday’s fixture at home to Gillingham.

Swindon intend to provide an update on the club’s new head coach "at the earliest opportunity".

"Everyone at Swindon Town Football Club would like to express their appreciation to Mark for his commitment and hard work during his time with the club and wish him all the best in the future," read a club statement.
