Ken Doherty beaten by Ng On Yee in British Open qualifier
Ken Doherty's poor start to the new snooker season continued as he was defeated 4-3 by Ng On Yee in the British Open qualifiers.
The Dubliner fell 2-0 down before battling back to win the next three frames on the spin, but he couldn't see it out from there, losing the next two frames to the woman from Hong Kong as he made his exit before the tournament proper.
It follows a similar loss to Ryan Day in the qualifiers for the European Championship last month. Doherty, who won the World Championships a quarter of a century ago, is on the tour this season after receiving a wildcard in April, which gave him two more years on the pro tour.
He received a similar card in 2020 after dropping out of the top-64 in the world rankings.
Earlier this week, Gerard Greene booked his place in the tournament with a 4-2 victory over Sanderson Lam, with Fergal O'Brien, Aaron Hill, Mark Allen, Jordan Brown and Michael Judge all in action later this week.
