Ken Davy discusses new-look Super League board, his own future and unity in rugby league

Ken Davy will step down as the Super League chairman by this summer at the latest before revealing a restructured, slimline board will be put in place to handle the competition's affairs ahead of realignment with the Rugby Football League.

With a new commercial arm being launched later this year to handle all of the sport's sponsorship, marketing and events rights, the future of Super League Europe has been under scrutiny with regards to what it will look like at an administrative level. There are currently directors from all 12 competing clubs, as well as Davy, who is in position as the interim chair following the departure of Robert Elstone from the organisation.

However, Davy confirmed his time as chair is coming to an end, but there will be a new look to the board moving forwards. "It's taken much longer than I anticipated," Davy said when asked about his own future at a press meeting on Tuesday.

"I thought it would be three to six months so it's taken a lot longer and I am looking forward to stepping down. It's a job that I was happy to take on and I was delighted with the progress we're making. I would hope by Magic (Weekend in July) I might be out of a job and if not then, perhaps soon after."

Davy also revealed that a new-look Super League board is likely to consist of far fewer individuals. With Super League Europe losing a lot of its role in regards to negotiating broadcast and commercial deals, the new board will have a much slimmer feel to it, with only two club officials represented on a rotational basis.
