Keith Treacy: Club with ethos similar to Brentford would suit Caoimhin Kelleher

Former Republic of Ireland international Keith Treacy believes a move to a club with an environment similar to Brentford would be most suitable if Caoimhin Kelleher does depart Liverpool this summer.

A lack of first-team football has been the primary issue for the Boys in Green goalkeeper at Anfield, with the Cork native restricted to rare cameos.

But he is expected to depart soon, according to Ireland manager Stephen Kenny, who commented last week that "it looks like he'll be on the move this summer and he can only benefit [from that]".

The 24-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs including Brentford, particularly with the Premier League club's number one David Raya tipped for a big-money move away.

However, the Bees have signed Dutch international goalkeeper Mark Flekken for about €12m from SC Freiburg in the meantime which may well have closed that avenue for Kelleher, while the west London club also have a host of other goalkeepers contracted.

But speaking on the RTÉ Soccer Podcast, Treacy suggested that a club possessing a similar culture to Brentford would be ideal.

"There are options. I think Brentford would be a match made in heaven," he said.

"I think under Thomas Frank, they have this learning ethos that nobody gets on anybody's back when they make mistakes and I think Caoimhin would really thrive in that sort of situation."
