Keith Downie claims Newcastle have a new leader behind-scenes

Journalist Keith Downie has claimed that Kieran Trippier has been acting like a captain at Newcastle after his arrival in January.

Kieran Trippier has already received plenty of praise from the likes of Paul Merson since joining Newcastle, and it appears as if he’s not only having a great influence on the field.

Keith Downie spoke to GIVEMESPORT and said that despite his injury, he is still “acting like a captain” off the pitch.

“He’s acting like a captain off the field. He was acting like a captain when he was playing even though, of course, Jamaal Lascelles is the captain. I think the two free kicks, you know, the winner against Villa and it was essentially the game clincher against Everton as well, have won Newcastle six points,” Downie said.

Kieran Trippier coming into the building at St James’ Park gave Newcastle a huge boost. Since the Englishman’s arrival, the Magpies have lost just one game in the Premier League and that was the most recent fixture against Chelsea, before this they were eight games unbeaten.

He’s shown he can lead a side already as he took the armband against Aston Villa and he’s been rather active on social media since suffering his injury, with plenty of Instagram posts both spurring his teammates on and taking digs at certain pundits.
