Katie McCabe named in Champions League Team of the Season

Katie McCabe's terrific form over the last few months has been acknoweldged by UEFA, with the Arsenal star named in the Champions League Team of the Season.

Republic of Ireland captain McCabe had looked like she might depart the Gunners in January, with Chelsea reportedly making a bid of £250,000 for her services.

At that time McCabe had actually been spending quite a bit of time on the bench, but boss Jonas Eidevall was emphatic about his desire to keep the Dubliner at the club. She soon got back into the side and made her presence felt with a string of influential performances, both in Europe and the Women's Super League.

She gets the nod at left-back in a star-studded selection.

Barcelona boast six players in the XI while Wolfsburg have four. Those two teams met in the final last Saturday, with Barca storming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Wolfsburg needed extra-time to defeat Arsenal in the semi-finals.

McCabe will be hugely important to her country as they prepare for a first ever appearance at a World Cup this July.

Vera Pauw's charges have Tallaght friendlies against Zambia [22 June] and France [6 July], with a warm-up game versus Colombia pencilled in for 14 July in Brisbane. They take on co-hosts Australia in Sydney on 20 July in their group opener.
