Katie comes back from the brink to remain world champion beating Amanda Serrano on a split decision

Katie Taylor came back from the brink of defeat to maintain her unblemished record with a hard-fought points victory over Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden.

The undisputed champion had to dig deep to get through the middle rounds but eventually took the win with a split decision, the judges scoring it 94-96, 97-93, 96-93 in Katie's favour.

The win sees Katie's unblemished record continue to 21 wins and no defeats as her boxing career continues to defy.

A bright start from the lively, accurate Taylor, however, Serrano worked her way back into the contest with her go-forward style eventually wearing Katie down.

The fight sparked into life in the fifth round when Serrano trapped Taylor on the ropes and delivered a punishing combination that visably weakened the champion as Katie's legs looked gone and didn't appear to have the awareness to get out of trouble and stayed trading.

Serrano missed an opportunity to finish the contest in the sixth as Katie still looked weak and out of sorts, with the two slugging it out in the centre of the ring.

One big punch would have endede it as Serrano was also tiring, which allowed Taylor regain her composure in the final rounds to get home by the narrowest of decisions.
