Kansas City Chiefs Drop Post-Season Rom-Com – But Its Inspiration Is Subject To Interpretation

The Kansas City Chiefs new post-season promotional trailer spoofs Hallmark rom-coms — but it sneaks in multiple references to the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce romance.

The trailer, called “Falling for Football,” follows a football fan (Hallmark leading man Tyler Hynes) who meets cute with fellow Hallmark mainstay Janel Parrish.

The set-up follows a typical rom-com plot. Parrish, having been left at the altar by a football-loving fiance, has grown to hate the sport. But she falls for a guy who works in a Chiefs merchandise shop, a job he initially keeps secret, until the big reveal. “You’re not just a fan, it’s your livelihood!” she cries, giving Hynes an ultimatum. “It’s the Chiefs or me!” she demands. “I hate football!”

But thanks to some wise advise from Donna Kelce (the mom of a certain Chiefs tight end who dates a pop superstar), Parrish comes around and finds love with Hynes.

Beyond Donna Kelce, some Swifties are finding hints throughout. Chiefs offensive lineman Creed Humphrey calls out “order number 13” at a local diner, a possible reference to Swift’s lucky number. There’s also a shot of friendship bracelets in Hynes’s shop.

The trailer has cameos from Chiefs players Humphrey, Trey Smith, Tommy Townsend, and Dante Hall, as well as play-by-play announcer Mitch Holthus, Chiefs fan and rocker Melissa Etheridge, Kansas City–born rapper Tech N9ne, country musician Kameron Marlowe, NFL on-air personality Kimberly Chexnayder (Kimmi Chex), and team mascot KC Wolf.
