Jurrien Timber fuels Manchester United transfer speculation as Ajax future addressed

Jurrien Timber is 'not sure' if he will remain at Ajax beyond the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman has been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool, with his contract running until 2025 at Ajax. The 21-year-old worked with Erik ten Hag in Amsterdam and United's boss is on the hunt for a centre-back this summer.

Harry Maguire's future at Old Trafford is uncertain while speculation around Victor Lindelof swirls too. Timber is one player United have been credited with an interest in, along with Napoli's Kim Min-jae and Monaco's Axel Disasi.

And Timber, who previously spoke about his interest in playing football overseas, has now cast further doubt over his immediate future at Ajax. He has made more than 120 appearances for his boyhood club but it remains to be seen whether he will still be there next season.

In the latest interview, Timber told Vandaag Inside: "Will I stay with Ajax anyway? I’m not sure, I can’t say that. I'm not in talks with Ajax now. My agent had a good talk a few times, but it's not like we're talking about anything right now."

Back in April, Timber said: "There is a lot of concrete interest and I have made agreements with Ajax. Last year Ajax asked me to stay for at least one more season and to extend my contract. As a club boy, I did that with love and after the season we will review the situation. At the Dutch national team, I often talk to boys who play football abroad. I want to take that step someday.”
