Jurgen Klopp honest over ‘real beast’ Erling Haaland; Carragher has words of caution

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says “unfortunately” the signing of Erling Haaland is “really good” for title rivals Manchester City.

City announced on Ruesday they had agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of Norway striker Haaland. Pep Guardiola’s men will pay the 21-year-old’s release fee of £51m, making the initial transfer fee a bargain.

But the deal will top £85m in total when agent fees, Haaland’s signing on bonus and other costs are considered, according to Sky Sports.

Haaland has passed a medical in Brussels and City now have to agree personal terms with the prolific striker.

The goalscorer is a player that Klopp and Liverpool have not been linked with. Whether or not Liverpool’s hierarchy had been informed of the player’s will to join City or whether they were priced out of a deal is unclear.

But Klopp was asked about Haaland after Liverpool’s nerve-wracking win over Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

The German coach has previously labelled the former Red Bull Salzburg star a “real beast” and believes he will score goals next season.

Asked if Haaland would make City stronger, Klopp said: “A lot. Good player. City was never and will never be a team that wins because of one player.

“They have a specific way to play, and I think Erling will all of a sudden realise that he will score a lot of goals at the second post where he just puts his foot on it. And he will love that. He is a real beast.

“He was injured a couple of times at Dortmund but when he’s fit he’s a real beast. Unfortunately, he is a really good signing.”
