Journalists say Dubravka was ‘wonderful’ v Liverpool
Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday afternoon but Martin Dubravka can hold his head high after a fantastic performance between the sticks. The 33-year-old, who made nine saves over the 90 minutes, did his bit to keep the Reds at bay and didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.
Dominic Scurr of The Shields Gazette gave Dubravka a player rating of 8/10 and said he produced a ‘wonderful’ reaction stop to save a Diogo Jota header. Scurr noted that the Slovakian international was called into action numerous times by Jota, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah and was equal to it.
Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave Dubravka a player rating of 8/10 and said he ‘kept Newcastle in the game’ with his multiple saves at St James’ Park. Graeme Bailey of 90min gave the 33-year-old a player rating of 7/10 and said he produced some ‘very good’ saves between the sticks.
Dubravka has made 24 appearances across the board this season, conceding 29 goals with seven clean sheets. The Slovakian shot-stopper has been a regular since Eddie Howe replaced Steve Bruce and he’s vindicating the decision with performances like against Liverpool.
