Journalist says Liverpool have been 'watching' PSV starlet Cody Gakpo

Liverpool have recently been credited with an interest in PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo.

The Reds are believed to be in admiration of the 22-year-old and held initial talks over a future transfer according to Voetbal International.

Already making waves in the Dutch Eredivisie, Gakpo has earned an outstanding 7.63 average Sofascore rating in 15 league outings.

Speaking to talkSPORT (Thursday, 27 January 3,15pm), Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan claimed that the Anfield club were indeed keen on the talented ace.

“One of the most promising players in Dutch football. Cody Gakpo is a great player but I agree with Marco van Basten who has been campaigning against young players leaving so early. He’s great for Holland and in the Eredivisie. He could play for Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool – all the ones who have been looking at him. They have been sending their scouts, watching loads of him. His agent is in touch with a couple of really big clubs.”

Van Der Kraan went on to advise the compatriot of Virgil van Dijk to wait before making the ‘massive’ step to the Premier League.

This season Gakpo has scored 10 times and registered 11 assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £19.8million and under contract in Holland until 2026 (Transfermarkt), Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also reported to be interested in the youngster.

Capped four times by Holland at the senior level, Gakpo certainly appears to have a promising future at the very highest echelon of the game.

Able to play across the frontline and possessing a wide array of attacking skills, it’s no surprise top clubs and Jurgen Klopp would be taking an interest in the forward.
