Journalist reveals West Ham now want £85k-p/w ‘sensational footballer’; he's keen to move

West Ham United are among a whole host of clubs interested in signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, according to a report by transfer insider Graeme Bailey.

The former Charlton Athletic man played a huge part in Liverpool’s title winning season in 2019/20, having made 28 league appearances alongside Virgil van Dijk.

However, a knee tendon injury, which he suffered whilst on international duty with England, put his 2020/21 season to an end in November, and ever since, Gomez has struggled to make his way back into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans.

Following an injury-free run for Joel Matip and the arrival of Ibrahima Konate, the 24-year-old has barely featured this season, having amassed just 102 minutes of Premier League football.

Consequently, many rumours have arisen linking the defender with an Anfield exit.

According to Bailey, via his Anfield Watch column, Gomez is now concerned over his Liverpool future and keen to get more playing time.

The centre-back is worried about missing out on England selection, with Gareth Southgate, whilst a keen admirer, struggling to pick a player without first-team minutes.

As a result, a number of clubs are interested in signing Gomez over the summer, who remains under contract until 2024.

These sides include Tottenham, Newcastle, Fulham, Everton and West Ham, who are all set to battle it over the Liverpool man’s signature.

On many occasions Gomez has demonstrated his ability to perform at the top level. This hasn’t come without praise, with Klopp hailing him as a “sensational footballer”.

Consequently, it is easy to see why a myriad of clubs are in for the 24-year-old, who still has so many years ahead of him to develop even further.
