Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall scoring referred to police

It is not an every day occurrence that Speakers of the House of Commons get involved in sport and the end results, but after Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall’s fight came to a very controversial end, an investigation was needed.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, a speaker of the House of Commons, has questioned Taylor’s split decision win in his undisputed super lightweight title defence and has already forwarded the matter on to the police.

Sky Sports have reported, as per Sportsmail, that Sir Lindsay has said: “I have to question why the judges got it so wrong?

“I have already sent a letter to the police. I have spoken to Nadine Dorries, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the Minister for Sport, Nigel Huddleston – they are both looking into this.

“I also believe that something seriously went on here – whether it was undue influence, one must question why.”

The British Boxing Board of Control’s general secretary Robert Smith has also confirmed that they are looking into the controversial scoring from the clash between Taylor and Catterall.

There is no doubt that if the suspicions raised are found to be true, then Catterall will surely deserve a rematch.

His trainer Jamie Moore also says that his fighter “should get another chance to fight for all the belts in the super lightweight division” following the rather controversial defeat to Taylor.

Taylor has been showing great sportsmanship and saying he is open to a rematch, and this could be taken either way. It could be seen that he is feeling guilty after getting the win, or in contrast, he has nothing to hide and wants to prove that he may yet again be able to beat the Englishman.
