Josh Rock edged out at European Darts Championship

Top seed Luke Humphries eased into the quarter-finals of the European Championship in Dortmund as Irish youngster Josh Rock bowed out against Michael Smith.

With the likes of Michael van Gerwen and Rob Cross crashing out in the first round, Humphries secured safe passage into the last eight with a 10-6 second-round victory over Ryan Searle.

The 2021 UK Open runner-up did not need to be at his best to set up a meeting with fellow Englishman Michael Smith.

'Bully Boy' Smith has been in fine form in 2022 and came out on top in a thrilling afternoon meeting with Josh Rock, both players averaging over 101 before Smith sealed a 10-8 win.

Peter Wright will also be in action on Sunday after the Scot proved far too strong for Rowby-John Rodriguez – the Austrian unable to follow-up his shock win over Price as he lost 10-4 to the third seed.

Chris Dobey and Dave Chisnall set up a second all-English quarter-final showdown.

A 10-5 victory over Jose de Sousa saw Dobey advance in the last of the second round matches, securing a place against Chisnall, who had earlier seen off Jonny Clayton 10-6.

Dirk van Duijvenbode beat 2018 European champion James Wade 10-7 and will meet fellow Dutchman Danny Noppert after he beat compatriot Vincent van der Voort 10-9.
