Jorge Masvidal faces felony battery charge after allegedly attacking Colby Covington

Jorge Masvidal could be facing legal trouble following an incident earlier this week where he was accused of punching Colby Covington in the face, it is reported.

The former interim UFC welterweight champion, who had been enjoying a meal with The Nelk Boys at Papi Steak Restaurant in Miami Beach, Florida, complained to cops that he was “attacked by Jorge Masvidal.”

Masvidal, 37, is alleged to have ‘ran up to him from his left and without notice punched him with a closed fist two times in the face’, a report from Miami Beach Police Department states.

The American MMA fighter faces a possible criminal charge for the incident, according to police documents obtained by MMA Fighting.

Covington also claimed he heard Masvidal say, “You shouldn’t have been talking about my kids,” during the attack.

In the police report, the victim alleges that he ran away after he saw ‘three or four other unknown males’ approaching him in an ‘aggressive manner’, before seeking refuge in the Papi Steak Restaurant ‘where he contacted police’.

The police report adds that Covington fractured his left front tooth and suffered a minor injury to his left wrist as a result.

Covington is also said to have identified Masvidal by the sound of his voice, having also recognised his trademark curly hair sticking out of his hoodie, the report adds.

Video cameras at Papi Steak picked up the alleged street attack, with police also seen speaking to Covington and other witnesses after the altercation.

Masvidal is suspected of felony battery, according to the police report, and Covington could press charges if he decides to take the matter further.
