Jordan Wynter says Dartford are in safe hands with right-back switching to centre of defence

Versatile Jordan Wynter feels confident playing the central defensive role for Dartford.

Wynter, who is heading into his fifth season at the club, spoke to Dartford FC TV about his role of late after playing a central role in the 2-2 draw against National League Boreham Wood on Saturday.

The regular right-back was speaking after the game where the Darts led 2-0 with goals from Maxwell Statham and a trialist before the higher-ranked opposition fought back.

“I am quite versatile and so it is not a big shocker to me,” said the 28-year-old.

“Playing centre-back is a bit different to what I am used to but I feel that I have been doing all right there, the gaffer [Alan Dowson] has given me some positive feedback and I am pleased with some of my performances so far.

“I have played there before for a couple of teams before I came to Dartford, it is not my predominant position but I am enjoying the role at the moment.

“I would say my preferred role is a holding disciplined central midfield role. I have played right-back since I have been here a lot of the time so I am comfortable doing that as well and feel pretty comfortable playing either or.”

Dartford’s weekend challenge was a good one, up against a club who finished just shy of the National League play-offs and enjoyed a well-publicised FA Cup run, reaching the fifth round.

It was the kind of challenge the Darts relished.

Wynter said: “We want to prove that we can go up against a National League side and I would say that out of all the games we have played so far that would be the closest game that would compare with what we will get in the actual season so I was happy with the game and it is time to push on.”
