Jonny Williams and Ethan Coleman are injured in FA Cup win for Gillingham against Charlton while Conor Mahoney was missing

Gillingham were left nursing injuries after their FA Cup win over Charlton.

Midfielder Ethan Coleman picked up a knock midway through the first half and before the break they also lost Jonny Williams to a facial injury.

The Gills were already without Conor Mahoney for the match due to injury.

It’s a blow to the Gills after only recently returning to a near fully-fit squad but all three could be back soon.

Talking about the latest injuries, head coach Stephen Clemence said: “Jonny got a whack in the face and we couldn’t stop the bleeding. He wanted to carry on but the bleeding wouldn’t stop. He had had some stitches.

“We will have to assess Ethan and it is never easy when you lose two midfield players in the first half of the game, to still go on and win that game and keep another clean sheet at home, I was really happy.

“Conor did well to play the last game against Wimbledon, he had a problem after the previous game and it was still not quite right.

“I am sure he will be fine for (Barrow on Saturday) but I felt it was best to leave him out and make sure he doesn’t injure himself where we lose him for a longer period of time.”

Clemence was able to recall right-back Robbie McKenzie to the team after his absence with a stomach issue.

Ashley Nadesan also got more time on the pitch after a late substitute appearance and long-term absentee Oli Hawkins made the bench - closing in on his first showing of the season.

“Robbie can be pleased with his performance,” said the head coach.

“Robbie, Ash Nadesan, Oli Hawins and Lewis Walker a bit have probably been unfortunate since I came in because they were injured.

“It’s never easy for a player when a new head coach comes in and they can’t get to show what they can do. I imagine it’s
