Jonjo Shelvey makes Man City and PSG claim about exciting Newcastle United future

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey believes the club has the potential to be 'massive' as he issued comparisons to both Manchester City and PSG.

The 30-year-old has featured heavily for the Magpies so far this season and joined the club from Swansea City back in 2016.

Having worked under four managers, the former Liverpool man is firmly of the belief things are heading in the right direction in the North East and wants to repay the faith Eddie Howe has shown in him since his arrival.

“I want to show the club that I warrant a couple more years,'' Shelvey told Sky Sports. "I’d happily hold my hands up and say I don’t deserve to be here if I felt I can’t play at this top level any more. But I want to stay as long as I can and be part of it all.

“I love life here, Newcastle is a great place to live. I usually only do three years then move on, but I’m settled. Let’s not sugar coat it, we needed taken over. Everyone at the club is pulling in the one direction - the camaraderie around the place is something I’ve not seen before.

“I’ve never had a manager like this before. The first thing he did was hand everyone a sheet of paper to write down their wives’ & kids’ names, plus all our birthdays. He wants to know everything about everyone. I’m glad I’m his cup of tea and I want to do everything to repay him.”

Given the club's new found wealth following their recently completed takeover, the Magpies are looking ahead to next season, as the former Liverpool midfielder issued a strong message on the matter.
