Jofra Archer retains England central contract but three players lose deals

Jofra Archer has retained his England central contract despite not playing for the team since March 2021 due to elbow and back injuries.

In all, England have announced 30 annual contracts: 18 central contracts, six increment contracts, and six pace bowling development contracts.

Surrey wicketkeeper Ben Foakes and Lancashire batter Liam Livingstone have received central contracts for the first time, but there is disappointment for Rory Burns, Dawid Malan and Jason Roy.

Yorkshire batter Malan and Surrey opener Roy have had their central contracts reduced to incremental deals, while Burns misses out altogether.

Meanwhile, Harry Brook, Matthew Potts and Reece Topley have received incremental terms for the first time, with Chris Jordan, Tom Curran and Dom Ben omitted.

England Test opener Alex Lees has not been offered a contract, while former white-ball captain Eoin Morgan is not included following his retirement in June.

‘The system, which covers both red-ball and white-ball players, takes into account the likelihood of players featuring in England teams across formats in the next 12 months, whilst also recognising performances in the preceding year,’ an ECB statement read.
