Joel Robles' first words and why Leeds United is 'perfect' step in his career

Former Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles believes Leeds United is the perfect place for him at this stage of his career. The 32-year-old was unveiled as a Whites player earlier this morning and will bring some much needed competition for Illan Meslier, after Kiko Casilla's departure earlier this summer.

The former Toffees keeper has admitted he's looking forward to passing on his experience to his fellow Leeds shot stoppers after signing a one-year deal at Elland Road. Speaking to LUTV, Robles said: "Obviously, I'm really excited to be back four years later at this fantastic club. Thank you to Leeds for giving me this great opportunity to give back, because I think this is a special football club and I'm excited to come here.

"I think it's a fantastic club for growth. We have very good fans and a very good squad, I think it's good for me to keep growing. I think it's a perfect stadium - the typical English football Stadium - I think it's perfect to play football."

Robles arrives at the club having spent the last four years at Real Betis, where he was number one in the 2020/21 campaign following Pau Lopez's departure for Roma. He said: "My objective this season - my mentality is to work hard and obviously help my team-mates and complete our objective as a team.

"We have three keepers and we're all together. To help the team, that's the objective of everyone and like I say, I've come to help the team and complete the objectives. I think it's a great moment to come here because I'm 32 with experience in my bag.

"The two keepers are 21. For me, I'm going to try and help them and I think it'll help their performance. I think it's the best start with three points at home.
