Joe Daniher extends time at Lions to 2025

Joe Daniher's smooth arrival in Brisbane has prompted the AFL offensive weapon to extend his contract by two years until 2025.

The Essendon recruit played a record 26 games in 2021, a welcome change after injury restricted the former All-Australian to just 15 games across his final three seasons at the Bombers.

He was beginning to build a formidable partnership with fellow tall forward Eric Hipwood before the latter's knee injury cut short his season, but still managed to finish the home-and-away campaign with at least one goal in every game.

Daniher's high-profile three-year deal was due to expire in 2023, but the 27-year-old will now remain a Lion until at least 2025.

"It's been fantastic," he said.

"I'm really enjoying the place, really enjoying the city. The team and club itself is in great shape."

Again expected to challenge for a breakthrough AFL flag, Lions list manager Dom Ambrogio described Daniher as a key plank of the club's future.

"Joe hasn't missed a beat since joining the Lions,'' he said.

"He set the tone in his first pre-season at the club by being one of the only players to do every single session and he took that base and turned it into a very good debut season.

"His second pre-season has been just as productive.

"This extension is reward for Joe for the great start he's made with the Lions and for us it is about locking away one of the key planks of our side to a longer-term deal."
