Jimmy Lee set to take over as Limerick football manager

Limerick GAA are set to appoint Jimmy Lee as their new football manager.

Lee guided Newcastle West to two county titles, as well as an appearance in last year's Munster SFC final where they were beaten by a point by Kerry side Kerins O'Rahilly's.

He was previously in the management set up with Limerick when Billy Lee was in charge. Lee was replaced by Ray Dempsey but his tenure only lasted five Allianz League games as he stepped down following a meeting of the players.

Mark Fitzgerald took over with the Treaty men losing to Clare in the Munster semi-final, before reaching the quarter-finals of the Taiteann Cup.

"The Football Appointment Group wish to bring forward Jimmy Lee for ratification as the new Limerick Senior Football Manager," Limerick GAA said in a statement.

"Jimmy has vast experience with his club of Newcastle West winning 2 County Senior Championships and leading them to a Munster Senior Club Championship final last season. Jimmy was also involved in the Limerick Senior Football Management Team under Billy Lee."

Details of Lee's back room team are due to be announced over the coming weeks.
