Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Paula Badosa reach Miami Open third round, Daria Kasatkina beaten by Elise Mertens

Jessica Pegula eased into the third round of the Miami Open with a 6-3 6-1 victory over Katherine Sebov. World No. 3 Pegula broke serve five times to beat qualifier Sebov, who was on an eight-match winning streak.

Ad Pegula made the semi-finals in Miami last year and her chances of another deep run have been boosted by the withdrawal of world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who was on the same half of the draw. Elise Mertens knocked out eighth seed Daria Kasatkina with a 4-6 6-2 6-2 win. Kasatkina had led the head-to-head 4-1 coming into the contest and looked to be heading for another win after coming from 3-0 down to take the first set. Zheng Qinwen made a winning return as she beat Irina-Camelia Begu 2-6 6-1 6-1. The 23rd seed pulled out of Dubai and then missed Indian Wells due to injury, but rallied to secure victory over Begu. Zheng will next face No.12 seed Liudmila Samsonova or qualifier Viktorija Golubic.
