Jermain Defoe's Manchester United regret as Mauricio Pochettino is deemed 'best option'

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Friday, March 25.

Jermain Defoe has revealed he tries not to regret not moving to Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The former Tottenham and Sunderland striker has announced his retirement, little less than two months after returning to the Stadium of Light. In an emotional statement, the Premier League icon called time on a career that saw him notch 162 Premier League goals.

Defoe has been reminiscing about the time he nearly moved to Old Trafford, with United's players at the time thinking his arrival was imminent. The move failed to materialise and he went on to enjoy spells with Bournemouth and Rangers among others.

Mauricio Pochettino has been described as 'one of the best options' for Manchester United as they search for their next permanent manager.

Erik ten Hag has already been interviewed for the vacant managerial position, with the MEN Sport reporting that Ten Hag is the United board's preferred candidate in the race for the position. United are unwilling to rule out other candidates for the role and are still open to other possible options.

Pochettino is one of those being considered as an alternative to Ten Hag. And, according to former United midfielder Kleberson, the Argentine would be the ideal man to take United forward.
