Jed Wallace’s chances of leaving Millwall for Nottingham Forest become apparent

The future of Jed Wallace has been up in the air for most of the month, with Nottingham Forest keen to bring him in.

However, according to a report from Guardian journalist Will Unwin, the player will not be heading to the City Ground before the window closes and it means he may end up staying at the Den until the end of the season.

Wallace’s current deal with Millwall is set to run out in the summer and with the Lions unable to tie him down to new terms yet, it looked like they could cash in during this winter transfer window. There have been plenty of options for him, with Forest one side keen to sign him.

Despite launching moves for him though, it looks as though a deal now won’t happen – and it means that unless a new side swoops in before the close of play, he could stay on with Millwall until his contract expires.

Wallace has been in fine form again this year, managing 11 goal contributions in just 21 Championship outings, he has been one of the Lion’s biggest assets. Coming off the back of an 11-goal season last year too, his stock has never been higher.

With the player in such fine form – and potentially available on the cheap – it looked like Forest were set to swoop. However, a deal now looks to be off the table and that means he won’t be heading to the City Ground before the window slams to a close tonight.

The Verdict

Jed Wallace is a superb player at Championship level and it would have been a real blow to lose him now for Millwall, even if he is out of contract at the end of the season.

He could have been a shrewd signing for Nottingham Forest, with the side Steve Cooper is building looking well-capable of kicking on and challenging for a top six spot. Wallace could have added even more goals to the team
