Jean Alesi drops launch hint over new Ferrari F1 car that's a 'real gem'

Former Ferrari driver Jean Alesi has revealed that the Scuderia are planning on launching a genuine 2022 car later this afternoon, rather than a show car, and that the latest Prancing Horse is a ‘real gem.’

Formula 1 launch season is reaching its final throes with Ferrari today, Mercedes tomorrow and Alpine on Monday all set to reveal their new cars, before Alfa Romeo become the last officially to do so on Sunday 27th – a couple of days after they run their car in a test livery at Barcelona.

Certainly, this launch season has been shrouded in plenty of secrecy as teams seek to keep their 2022 regulation approaches under wraps for as long as possible, but Alesi says Ferrari are going to show off their actual car and it’s a bit of a looker.

“I saw the Ferrari earlier,” he said to Canal+.

“It is a real gem. Very, very slim with quite a sophisticated nose.

“The car is already impressive and I hope it will also be fast enough to join Mercedes and Red Bull out the front.”

Indeed, Alesi also revealed that Ferrari are planning on showing a genuine 2022 challenger, rather than a show model with the livery on as we have seen from some other teams during launch season.

“It’s a pity – I was just looking at the Red Bull, which is a demonstration car, the FOM model. It’s nothing exceptional,” he said.

“When we get to see the Ferrari, it will be a shock. All the cars are going to be quite impressive as Formula 1 is changing almost 100 percent of its technical regulations.”
