Jealous brother who couldn't hack his sister's success JAILED

A jealous brother who repeatedly struck his own sister in a violent attack has been jailed. Adil Ali, 27, was at home with his family when an argument developed between himself and his sibling.

Their mother had been speaking to an auntie about her children and of how proud she was of her daughter for getting a law degree and her career, Manchester Crown Court heard.

Ali, of Ardwick, began making antagonistic comments about his sister before his sister said if he continued as he was he would ‘end up in prison or in a ditch’. His mum sought to diffuse the argument by telling their daughter to go upstairs. However, Ali followed her and told her she was ‘no better than anyone else’.

“He was becoming more irate and the complainant threatened to call the police,” prosecutor Duncan Wilcock said.

“He confronted her and said ‘Look what you've done’ before punching her repeatedly in the head.”

The woman saw a lamp shade and was able to use it to divert his attention before calling the police and leaving the line open. Ali continued the assault, punching her to the head, grabbing her by the hair and hitting her to the back of the head.

Their mother was able to split them up shortly before the police arrived. Ali escaped through a window but was quickly tracked down by officers.

As he was being arrested, he punched out at one officer before kicking out at another. Whilst officers placed him into the back of a police van, he spat at them.

Though his sister has not supported the prosecution, in a statement to the police at the time, she said she was left with two cuts to her face.
