Jason Quigley aiming to help Irish pro scene 'back on its feet' with April fight night

Jason Quigley says he is hopeful that his April fight night at Dublin's National Stadium against Denmark's Kim Poulsen will help get professional boxing in Ireland "back on its feet".

On 1 April, the Donegal fighter will be in the ring on Irish soil for the first time since he turned professional a decade ago.

He has not fought at the National Stadium by the capital's South Circular Road since 2013 when he was still an amateur fighter.

It's a venue where he won ten Irish titles before going pro in 2014.

"I've had many great memories here. Becoming the national senior champion here was one of my special nights," Quigley said on Friday.

"It is a pleasure to take this opportunity in Dublin, to take the chance to get professional boxing back on its feet.

"I want to leave this sport in a much better place than when I came into it. Professional boxing needs that in Ireland."

Quigley, who is trained by former WBO middleweight world champion Andy Lee, comes into the fight with the hope of working his way back into world title contention.

The Ballybofey native's last fight was in November 2021 when he lost by a second round stoppage to Demetrius Andrade whilst challenging for the same WBO belt which Limerick's Lee had held for a year between December 2014 and 2015.

"I am not just coming back here for the sake of it," said Quigley.

"I am coming back here to win a world title again. This is the start of it.

"I am not coming back to fight for a world title - I’m coming back to win a world title."
