Jamie Vardy injury latest ahead of PSV Europa Conference League clash

Jamie Vardy is continuing to undergo assessment as he looks to make a comeback from a knee injury.

The Leicester City striker made his comeback from a two-month lay-off for a hamstring injury last month but after playing just 79 minutes of football, has been forced to miss more games after picking up a knock on his knee in the win over Leeds United. It means Vardy has played just two of the club’s last 15 matches.

The problem means that the forward has missed the last three Premier League games as well as the doubleheader Europa Conference League clash against Rennes in the last 16 of the competition. Both Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanahco have been filling in for the 35-year-old, Iheancho scoring the opener in Saturday's 1-1 draw vs Manchester United.

There was a slight hope that a quick recovery could see the striker make it back in time for the visit of PSV in the Europa Conference League on Thursday. It is still to be seen if that will be the case, with Rodgers giving an update ahead of the weekend's game against Man United.

“We’ll see day by day," he said. "He’s certainly not ready for the weekend. We’ll assess it over the next week to two weeks.”

Following the 2-1 win over Brentford before the international break, Rodgers gave said that the striker would be available soon afrer the international break. He said: “The likes of Jamie, it’s a week to a couple of weeks, so that’s looking much healthier for us,”

That backs up what he said two days prior, which was: “Hopefully Jamie should be back training with us within the next week or so, which is great news, and he might not be too far away after the international break.”

The City manager will give the latest on the striker's condition when he speaks to the media
