Jamie Carragher says Liverpool had to “bend” the rules to get Mohamed Salah to sign a new contract, worth a reported £62.4m.
An 18-month impasse ended on Friday when the club announced Salah’s new three-year deal via a series of videos with the striker. The Egypt forward recently confirmed he would stay at Anfield for next season, but there were fears he would walk away for free next summer.

Now after Salah’s representatives and the Liverpool hierarchy have been locked in talks for months a new three-year deal has been ratified.
Even Salah’s 156 goals in 254 games had Liverpool reluctant to smash their wage structure.
But, according to Football Insider, the new deal is worth £400,000-a-week and, in wages alone. That will cost the club £62.4m, with other add-ons also likely.
Salah and his representatives had initially been holding out for £500,000-a-week over four years. So a compromise was eventually found which will make Salah the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
