Jamie Carragher responds to Cristiano Ronaldo pre-match snub vs Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has hit back at the suggestion that he was handed a ‘custard pie’ by Cristiano Ronaldo after the superstar blanked him prior to Manchester United’s win over Liverpool.

The attacker came over to greet former Old Trafford teammates Gary Neville and Roy Keane during the warm-up, but walked past Carragher. The Sky Sports pundit has been outspoken about his thoughts on United offloading Ronaldo, claiming he stifles the team.

The 37-year-old was dropped from Erik ten Hag’s line-up for the 2-1 win over Liverpool, eventually coming off the bench on 86 minutes. He had started the 4-0 loss to Brentford having been left out of the starting XI for the 2-1 opening defeat to Brighton.

Ronaldo had enjoyed just 45 minutes of pre-season football after missing the summer tour of Thailand and Australia due to family reasons. His future at the club is unclear with just nine days to go until deadline day following his transfer request earlier in the summer.

Carragher called on United to get rid of the Portugal captain even before he made his exit wish known, something Rio Ferdinand said the player would have seen. He suggested that Ronaldo’s blank of Carragher was intentional.

The Twitter account of Soccer AM shared the moment of the snub, with the caption: “*Insert custard pie emoji* @Carra23”. He quickly responded with a message of his own, suggesting that Ten Hag agrees with his stance on Ronaldo given his omission from the line-up.
