Jamie Carragher names one reason why Liverpool won’t win the Premier League this season

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher claims it will be ‘very difficult’ for the Reds to win the Premier League title after their awful start to the season.

Arsenal news, exclusives and analysis

Having gone into the new campaign as one of the favourites, Jurgen Klopp’s side already look out of the running after picking up just two wins in their opening seven games.

While they have only lost once, to fierce rivals Manchester United, they could only muster draws against Fulham, Crystal Palace, Everton, and Brighton, matches that they were largely expected to win.

As a result, they are currently a lowly ninth in the table, 11 points off leaders Arsenal, albeit they do have a game in hand over the Gunners.

And while they could bounce back from this poor form, Carragher believes that it may already be too late if they want to lift the Premier League title, citing the terrific starts made by rival clubs.

‘The top teams who go on to notoriously win titles very rarely do what maybe Manchester United teams did in the past and almost wait for the second half of the season,’ the former defender said on Sky Sports.

‘I think those days have gone. I think if you go back to [Jose] Mourinho at Chelsea where it was like, “right we’re out the blocks”, and United learnt at the time that they had to go with them.

‘[Manchester] City are the same and that’s why it’s a big worry for Liverpool where they find themselves right now because once you let top teams get away from you it’s very difficult to claw them back.’

With Liverpool struggling and United and Chelsea adjusting to new managers, many think this title race is now between Arsenal, City and Tottenham, who are separated by just four points at the top.
