Jamie Carragher makes Cristiano Ronaldo prediction after Mohamed Salah signs new Liverpool contract

Jamie Carragher is confident Mohamed Salah can emulate Cristiano Ronaldo’s longevity after the Liverpool striker ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract.

The Egypt international appeared destined to see out the final 12 months of his previous deal and potentially walk away as a free agent next summer.

Liverpool, however, sprung a surprise on Friday by announcing that Salah had committed his future to the club for another three years, with owners FSG having broken their wage structure to retain the services of last season’s PFA Player of the Year.

Salah turned 30 last month but Jurgen Klopp is confident the former Roma forward’s best years are ahead of him and Carragher, too, believes he will thrive well into his 30s, just like United superstar Ronaldo.

‘The way he looks after himself, I think he can be like a Cristiano Ronaldo, still getting goals in the Premier League,’ Carragher told Sky Sports.

‘The way Salah leads his life, I think there is a good chance over the next three years you will see no sort of drop-off in terms of his numbers.

‘Salah is already a Liverpool legend and if he’d moved on in 12 months he’d have still been a legend.
