Jamie Carragher aims dig at Manchester United legend Gary Neville after award snub

Jamie Carragher could not resist a light-hearted dig at Gary Neville during an acceptance speech at the Sports Journalists' Association awards on Monday evening.

Sky Sports' Monday Night Football was voted Television Show of the Year after judges highlighted its "esteem, journalism and reach". Carragher co-hosts the show alongside regular host David Jones and is often joined by Neville for pre and post-match discussions.

After accepting this prize during the event yesterday night, Carragher made reference to Neville not being in attendance and joked this was due to the former Manchester United defender being snubbed for the Pundit of the Year prize.

"Being an ex-player, it's always difficult to get that buzz back you had as a player in the big moments," Carragher began his speech by saying. "The thing I love about the show is that it's' the one that gives me that buzz and excitement before a show starts. The fact we can get into the real detail of football.

"I think one of the reasons we got the award is people talk about the guests we have on and we're really determined to keep pushing the show forward and getting the best possible people on the show. A lot of work goes into it, we are really proud of the show.

"There's a couple of people not here tonight," Carragher continued. "Dave Jones had another appointment, but Gary Neville decided not to come because he wasn't on the shortlist for Pundit of the Year! That's for him [the award] as well and for all these people here. Thank you very much!"
