James Ryan and Mack Hansen doubts grow as pair sit out training

James Ryan and Mack Hansen appear to be major doubts for Ireland's Rugby World Cup quarter-final against New Zealand after the pair missed training this morning in Paris.

Ryan wasn't seen at the squad's training ground at Stade Omnisports des Fauvettes. The second row has seen a specialist to determine the extent of a wrist injury picked up in the second half of their 36-14 win against Scotland at the weekend, while it's been reported by the Irish Independent that he's been given dispensation to fly back to Ireland for a scan.

Hansen was present at the session but didn't take a part in training. The wing suffered a calf injury shortly after returning from a HIA in the first half of Saturday's win, and was seen watching on from the sidelines as his team-mates trained this morning.

James Lowe, Keith Earls and Robbie Henshaw all appeared to take some part in the session.

Lowe came off at half-time on Saturday after being poked in the eye accidentally by Tadhg Beirne, which had caused swelling and blurred vision, and wore a white bib during training today, a designation for players who can't do full-contact.

Ireland are also sweating on the fitness of Keith Earls and Robbie Henshaw, who are carrying hamstring injuries, although the pair were involved in this morning's session.

Head coach Andy Farrell will name his matchday squad for the quarter-final on Wednesday afternoon.
