James Morrison's wife's cause of death confirmed after tragedy, inquest hears

An inquest has heard that singer James Morrison found his wife's body at their family home. The singer's wife, Gill Catchpole, was tragically found dead at the couple's home in Gloucestershire on Friday (January 5).

At an inquest into her death, held yesterday, a pathologist provisionally gave the cause of death as ligature suspension, the Mirror reports. The inquest heard that the mum-of-two was discovered by James after a friend who couldn't get into the house contacted him.

James, who has cancelled all work commitments following his wife's death, had a key and was the one to find Gill, the inquest heard. The inquest into her death was formally opened by Gloucestershire coroner Roland Wooderson and then adjourned.

A pathologist provisionally gave the cause of death as ligature suspension. Gill, 45, was identified by her driving licence and family members at the scene. The police have said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Mr Wooderson heard that tests were done on Gill's body. Dr Terry Jones, who did the post-mortem, said she may have died from hanging.

A police spokesperson said on January 9: "Police were called to Whitminster in Gloucester at around 9.10am on Friday (5 January) following concerns for the welfare of a resident. Officers attended and the body of a woman in her 40s was found within an address."

"The death is being treated as non-suspicious at this time. The coroner and woman's next of kin have been informed."
