James McCartan to remain in Down hotseat for championship

James McCartan is to remain in place as Down manager for the championship, the county board has confirmed.

Rumours emerged over the weekend that he had stepped down following a breach of squad rules at a recent training camp in Dublin.

But Down GAA say that the matter has now been resolved after players accepted that they were in the wrong.

"The matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of everybody. Players have accepted responsibility and have rectified the situation," Down County Secretary Sean Óg McAteer told Gaelic Life.

McCartan is in his second spell in charge of the county having guided them to the All-Ireland final in his first spell in 2010.

The Mourne men were recently relegated from Division 2 of the Allianz League and will be competing for the Tailteann Cup, unless they manage to reach the Ulster final this summer.

They're set to take on Monaghan in their provincial opener at Clones on 30 April.
