Jamal Edwards: Chelsea stars show love for music entrepreneur following death

British entrepreneur and music industry trailblazer Jamal Edwards has passed away at the age of 31.

His death was confirmed by his mother, Brenda Edwards, who released a statement to Loose Women this morning.

The singer and television presenter, who is a weekly panellist on the show, said: “It is with the deepest heartache that I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards passed away yesterday morning after a sudden illness.”

Edwards was an author, director, DJ, and founder of groundbreaking online urban music platform SBTV.

The broadcaster, also known as SmokeyBarz, helped launch the careers of British music talents including Ed Sheeran, Dave and Jessie J.

Edwards was awarded an MBE in 2014 for his services to music.

As well as dominating the music industry and changing the landscape for British artists, the Luton-born entrepreneur was a lifelong fan of Chelsea FC, and worked with the club in numerous capacities throughout his career.

The West London outfit has paid tribute to Edwards, describing him as “an inspiration to many” and honoured him as part of the Chelsea family.

A number of Blues players have also sent their own individual messages of love and support in memory of the 31-year-old.

“Rest in peace Jamal Edwards. I’m lost for words,” wrote defender Reece James.
