Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury: Eddie Hearn makes surprising prediction
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has offered up a surprising prediction for Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury.
There’s a burning hatred within the boxing community for the ‘celebrity’ bouts we’ve seen take place in recent years. From YouTubers to public personalities to retired boxers and beyond, there’s been a strange blend between professional fights and exhibitions taking over as one of the biggest draws the sport has to offer.
Of course, there are superstars like Canelo Alvarez and Tyson Fury who will always draw more eyes to their product, but there’s something to be said for the movement that’s been happening ever since Joe Weller put up that famous first boxing video.
The master of this particular field, as of this writing, is quite clearly Jake Paul. He’s 5-0 in his pro career and with a proposed return coming up on August 13, there’s a chance ‘The Problem Child’ could continue to go from strength to strength.
He’s expected to finally square off with Tommy Fury after their December meeting was called off, and according to Eddie Hearn, this one may not be as easy to predict as everyone first thought.
“I think it’s a 50-50 fight,” Hearn said. “I think it’s a funny one because it would be terrible for Tommy Fury if he cannot beat Jake Paul.
“But, I don’t think he can beat Jake Paul. I don’t know, I mean, Jake Paul didn’t like the fact that I said he was average, but they are both average.
“I don’t mean that disrespectfully. There are a lot of average boxers – average is not bad and it’s not good.”
“I said to Jake Paul, ‘I think that’s a compliment for you, I’m not saying you are a terrible boxer, I’m just saying you’re not very good’. The same applies to Tommy Fury. So in that case, it’s a 50/50 fight in that respect.”
