Jadon Sancho's big decision has been made harder by his Manchester United teammate

If you think you have no future, it makes it a whole lot easier to pack up and leave. But all it takes is a glimpse of change or hope to muddy the waters and suddenly make that decision a lot more complex.

For Jadon Sancho, the decision he is facing looks to have only one result: his exit from Manchester United, perhaps as soon as January.

Sancho has hit a stand-off with Erik ten Hag and neither side is willing to back down. Two gunslingers meeting at high noon. The manager explained after the defeat by Arsenal that Sancho had been left at home because he wasn't training hard enough. The winger did not agree and posted a statement on social media effectively accusing Ten Hag of lying.

While there is a certain sympathy to be had for Sancho - if he feels he has been wrongly and very publicly criticised he has a right to defend himself just as publicly - that sort of insubordination can't be allowed to stand. Cristiano Ronaldo didn't get away with it so Sancho certainly won't.

Crisis talks didn't yield any positive results. Ten Hag demanded an apology that Sancho hasn't been prepared to give and thus he has been frozen out of first-team activities since, even as United struggle with an injury crisis.

This frosty impasse has gone on for approaching two months now and the only foreseeable thaw is for Sancho to leave in the upcoming transfer window, either on loan or permanently. A split would seemingly be best for all parties.
