Jadon Sancho has revealed that a number of Chelsea and Liverpool players tried to persuade him to join their respective clubs, before he signed for Manchester United last summer.

The 21-year-old’s scintillating form at previous club Borussia Dortmund made him one of the continent’s most in-demand players, after registering 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

The England winger eventually joined United in a £73 million deal, but admitted that Chelsea players were among those trying to tempt him to put pen to paper elsewhere.

Sancho told Sky Sport Deutschland: “I met Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw with the national team. They always said: ‘Come to United'.

“There were also the guys from Chelsea and Liverpool, who all tried to convince me their club, but it only really got serious after Euro 2020.”

However, notwithstanding the clamour for his signature Sancho has acknowledged that he has so far failed to live up to the lofty expectations placed upon him, with both he and his teammates struggling to find form and consistency.

He added: “I'm very self-critical. It certainly (isn't) my best season, but I have learned a lot.
